I have just turned 60 years young today. Please don't congratulate me all at once. If you feel I am getting slow and forgetful, please bare with me - it's my age. At least that is the excuse I will be using from now on. But the way I look at it - 60 isn't old if you're a tree. I still have a full deck, I just shuffle slower now. |

Due to illness and bereavement, news items have not been amongst my priorities since i returned from my visit to Germany in January this year. To summarise briefly whilst at the Oberkochen show in Germany I purchased 5 Ebonies from Georg Beck including the best Ebony at the show a female and the runner up to her a male. Georg was kind enough to supply 3 ebony hetero females which together with a hetero female from Josef Deibler, and two new female stds form the basis of a new ebony line for the coming season.
A wilson white (silver) which won the best in it colour class and went on to win the best light mutation award at the Oberkochen show. It was bred by my son and daughter-in-law who breed chinchillas in Germany, and despite it success at the show they still let me bring him back to the UK. Here he will be the principle male line in my venture into breeding whites, from standards, ebonies and beige females.
A little blow on the trumpet for Steve and Chrissi they won 5 first awards, three colour class winners and best light mutation at the show with just 5 animals being shown and that was the best awards that could have been won by the animals entered.

Today I received updated pictures of the kit I have reserved (now known as Jake) the pictures were taken today and the kit is 47 days old.
The breeder Jessy said that she was going to begin weaning this week and i look forward to hearing how it goes.

I acquired two standard males.
The first is 11 months old and won first place in the stardard extra dark class at the Belgian show in February this year in the 6-7 months age group judged by comparison.
The second is a kit I have reserved which is currently 12 days old sired by the best adult standard at the Belgian Show with a score of 46 points on the 50 point system (and previously had scored 77 points in the 81 point system) and its mother 41 /50 points in the over 8 months age group. We hope that this animal will inherit the qualities of its parents.
This is the kit at 1 month old.

Expanded my herd with the addition of 2 female standards flling the spaces in the herd that existed early in the year and to some degree has hampered my plans for this year and maybe next. The new animals are the first standard females I have been able to obtain in the UK. |

We attended the Belgian show in Heusden-Zolder organised by Belgischen Vereniging Chinchillafokkers (BVC) on 24-25/02/2007 there were 233 entries which was considerably down on the previous years as most breeders were down in numbers due to a "boom" in sales in all sectors of the market in both Germany and Belgium. |
